A Cool Unblocking Play

Last night I had the worst set of 6 boards in a row I can ever remember. In the whole 8 board match, we lost 38-37. Anyway, the board I’m writing about today was a push. It was also the only board without at least a 6 imp swing. Both myself and the person at the other table went down in what is a cold contract on the lie of the cards.

How do you play the hand after AK of clubs and a ruff, and a shift to the diamond queen? At the other table, the declarer started with the spade 2 to the K so now he could never set up a 3rd heart trick and be able to get to it.

I, on the other hand, started with the 6 of spades to the J, ruffed a heart with the 8, and played the spade 10 to the K. I remembered to unblock 3 times already to position myself to ruff one more heart high, for if the suit splits 4-4, dummy’s last heart will be good for the crucial 3rd pitch I need for my diamonds. but when I saw the 3-1 spade split, i just cashed the AK and eventually lost a diamond. I was so focused on retaining the spade 3 as a potential entry that the fact that east already used a trump completely slipped my mind. It’s a cool hand, nonetheless.

I expect to make plays like that all the time but still when such an unblock opportunity comes up, it’s cool. I’ll blame it on being sleep deprived all week. It wouldn’t be so bad if I wasn’t so careful about preserving my deuce of spades from the beginning, but to get it that much right and then forget something simple is really frustrating.

I began watching this weeks’ RHNJ with last weeks’ ficaso in my head and found myself fast-forwarding through much of it because I couldn’t handle any more mean girl’ antics. I think I am going to sit out the rest of this season. Rather than being entertaining Bravo RH has become a venue for mean, dirty fighting with disturbing results. We have been coerced into watching what women will do for air time and it’s not pretty. What’s even more disturbing is the resulting high number of viewers. I feel ashamed to have been a part of the high ratings when there are women who were obviously having a breakdown or being coerced by another cast member into a fight to get more airtime. It’s more disturbing than fun to watch. The reality is that the viewers become victims. We find a program that begins as very entertaining with cast members who are as honest and real as the editing allows but find ourselves watching a venue for either mean, dirty fighting with disturbing results that mimic a modern day gladiator ring or in which it is possible for a person to have a complete meltdown and be exploited for 2 episodes because ratings will go up. Alex and Simon, I applaud your ability to remain level headed, to call people out who are obviously being mean or double minded just for the sake of air time and the ability to recognize when a meltdown is eminent. I wish you much luck with your book and am awaiting a cookbook from the two of you. Your fans hear about fabulous recipes and would love to see them in print. Your collaborative efforts are both fun and insightful. Many Blessings!

Interesting read. I didn’t know aspirin has more benefits than just a pain reliever and an anti-inflammatory drug. It’s good to know that it can prevent diabetes and any cardiovascular diseases. Thanks for sharing.

People don’t watch garbage. CNN is crashing and Time is shrinking is size – because people want news, not propaganda. NewSpeak, NYT’s, LA Times – all shrinking.

What are the benefits of using Image2D over Buffer? It looks like it has more restrictions and is harder to use. I assume it can provide better performance. If that is true, how?
